Test Drive 1

  Posted on 31st May 2005

I had been trawling all the main online car sale sites for a couple of weeks, looking for a replacement for the Coupe. I'm not sure why but the MG ZS has caught my attention, which is amazing considering that I have never been 'aware' of the MG range.

There was a 04/53 plate for sale locally which I went and test drove. I was impressed with the V6 engine but the interior seemed dated, but this was something I could live with. Ideally I was looking for a saloon and this was a hatchback, although it did look very nice in Trophy Blue - a colour I had previously decided to avoid.

Of course it was the last day of the month and the saleman was keen to squeeze in another sale before the end of the day, however despite all his attempts to convince me I just couldn't get past it being a hatchback...but this did prove to be a good descision a week later.

Test Drive 2

Trip to see the car...love at first sight! I hadn't seen a MK2 in the flesh and I wasn't disappointed, it was amazing, a fantastic shape, the MK2 looked awesome. I was looking for a car that was subtle but the 'extreme' spoiler didn't look out of place. Again the V6 engine was a pleasure to drive.

I was pleased that I didn't buy the MK1 ZS I'd seen earlier in the week!

I hadn't seen any pictures of the car but was happy to find that it had climate control and the full leather seats, the saloon looked the business.

Below are some pics I took with my phone after the test drive.

I'm due to collect the car on 9th June.

Collection day!

Here it is, pics were taken at the services during the long haul back home (100 miles!) A lovely sunny day.

After having driven for 2 miles I got to try out the VIS

and it sure makes the car fly!

Here is the spec -
4 door saloon in X-Power Grey
Full leather seats
Climate Control
KV6 quad-cam 2497cc engine
177ps
240nm
54 plate

I say 54 plate, but when I first saw that car it had a private plate on it which was an '04, fortunately we noticed the registration date on the V5 which made us realise that it was actually a 54, an added bonus! I will get the plate swapped to a local 54 plate in a few weeks.

I had previously installed a BMC CDA, but found this to be far too loud.

Piper stainless steel cat-back

The old exhaust was on the way out (after 40k), so replaced by a lovely Piper 40mm stainless steel cat-back system, supplied by RML (X-Power), fortunately I live not far from them. It was terribly loud to start with but after a couple of months (!) it has quietened to a bearable level.

Earlier in the year I gave the MG a good clean and polish using the Biltema and some SRP, plus seal and wax. The pics below are from a recent clean involving a straightforward wash with a lambswool mitt and wash'n'wax, then finished off with Buter Wet Wax from Chemical Guys, which is an easy on/off product.
Some evening shots.
